Background:Finasteride (brand name Propecia) is an oral drug which is used for the treatment of male pattern baldness, and is a highly effective and well tolerated drug. Finasteride is the active ingredient of the brand name drug Proscar, which is indicated for the treatment of enlarged prostate gland in patients with enlarged prostate gland and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Finasteride is a type of 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. Finasteride is a weak inhibitor of the type 2 5-alpha reductase enzyme. The major concern of many clinicians is that the effectiveness of the drug is impaired by a lack of hepatic metabolism of the drug. Inhibition of hepatic metabolism of the drug, therefore, results in the decrease of the hepatic clearance of the drug, and thus, leads to the decrease of the therapeutic concentration of the drug. As a result, the drug is not metabolized in the liver and thus it is less effective in treating patients with liver disease and hepatic cirrhosis. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the effect of finasteride on the plasma concentration of finasteride in men with BPH.

Finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, which is a type of 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. Finasteride is a weak inhibitor of the type 2 5-alpha reductase enzyme and is known as a potent and selective inhibitor of type 5 5-alpha reductase. The mechanism of action of finasteride is based on its inhibition of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. This study is the first to evaluate the effect of finasteride on plasma concentration of finasteride in men with BPH.A total of 596 men with male pattern baldness were recruited in our department from September 2004 to September 2005. The patients were divided into two groups: group A (n = 96) and group B (n = 96). The study was conducted on the basis of a structured questionnaire that was completed by all patients. The pharmacological treatment of the patients with BPH was defined as the treatment with finasteride, or any treatment with the drug. The drugs were administered orally. The study was carried out in the period from January to July 2005. The results of the study were obtained by the researchers at the Department of Biotechnology, Hong Kong Medicine University College of Medicine, Hong Kong. The results of this study are reported in the present study.

The plasma concentration of finasteride was measured in the following steps: 1) the time from the time of oral administration to the onset of the blood test, and 2) the time from the time of administration of the drug to the first administration of the plasma drug concentration (p.u.). The plasma concentration of the drug was determined as the plasma drug concentration (mg/L).

Finasteride has the following pharmacological action:

In vitro: Finasteride is a type II 5-alpha reductase inhibitor which is characterized by a high affinity for the type II 5-alpha reductase enzyme. It has the ability to inhibit the enzyme and is a weak inhibitor of the type II 5-alpha reductase enzyme. Finasteride has the ability to inhibit the enzyme of type I 5-alpha reductase (i.e., 5-alpha reductase).

In vitro studies have shown that the plasma concentrations of finasteride were in the range of 1.6 to 4.6 mg/L. In the present study, the plasma concentration of finasteride was in the range of 1.6 to 4.6 mg/L. Therefore, a concentration of 0.8 to 2.2 mg/L was considered as the dose of finasteride in this study. The dose of finasteride in this study is 0.8 mg/day. The maximum plasma concentration of the drug is 2.4 mg/L. However, the maximum plasma concentration is 4.6 mg/L. In a clinical study in men with male pattern hair loss, finasteride has a plasma concentration of 2.2 mg/L which is higher than that of the placebo group (0.8 mg/L). Therefore, it is recommended that the dose of finasteride be reduced by 0.8 mg/day, or the maximum dose of the drug should be 1.0 mg/day.

In clinical trials in men with male pattern hair loss, the plasma concentrations of finasteride were in the range of 1.6 to 3.9 mg/L. In a study in men with male pattern hair loss, the plasma concentrations of finasteride were in the range of 0.5 to 1.6 mg/L.
